When is brush pick-up and does it get picked up every month of the year?
Tree Limb Collection
Tree limbs will be chipped by the D.P.W. on the first Monday of every month. Tree limbs must be no greater than 5" in diameter and must be neatly stacked behind the curb, not in the street. Limbs/branches for chipping should be larger (2" in diameter) and not small sticks and twigs. Sticks, twigs etc., should be placed for yard waste pickup.
TREE STUMPS, SMALLER TWIGS, AND/OR HEDGE TRIMMINGS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR THIS COLLECTION. The first 5 minutes of chipping are free. Thereafter, residents will be billed $17* for every 5 minute period or fraction thereof. ONLY PLACE BRUSH BY THE CURBSIDE THE WEEKEND PRIOR TO THE 1ST MONDAY PICK-UP (see below Policy Clarification Statement).
Please note: There will be no Tree Limb Collection for the months of January, February, & March.
Policy Clarification Statement. Unfortunately, some property owners have gotten into the habit of placing their brush piles at curb side either shortly after or well in advance of the first Monday of the month collection. This is a concern for all citizens and property owners in Frankenmuth because it takes away from the beauty of the neighborhood and the community and is not desired due to obvious public health, safety and general welfare concerns and in order for the City to maintain a cost effective scheduled monthly collection program.
Because of these legitimate concerns, it is the City’s policy that in the event the chipping crew is required to respond or return to a location outside of their normal tree limb collection route/schedule, the property owner(s) will be billed for the entire time it takes the crew to complete the special collection. Such special collection shall be at the discretion of the DPW Superintendent as he takes into consideration the amount of tree limbs to be collected, the timing of the next regularly scheduled collection, and the impact of the special collection on the crew’s normal work schedule. Special consideration shall be given to large storm events and whether the tree limb(s) is(are) from a City owned street tree.
* Price subject to change.
Mulch Availability
Depending upon the time of year and availability, many times the City offers residents free mulch to use around their property from the 1st Monday of the month tree limb collection. The availability and quality of the mulch varies depending upon the type of trees and brush chipped; however, it provides good cover for selected landscaping areas. Please be advised that this mulch does not compare to the mulch purchased from professional landscaping companies. If interested in obtaining this mulch, please contact the City office during regular hours at (989) 652-9901 for location and other availability and loading information. The mulch can be loaded via self-service in your pick-up or trailer or if you request assistance loading the mulch, there is a minimum cost of $20 (subject to annual adjustment) for a standard load. Depending upon availability, the chipper truck can also be contracted to deliver a 10 yard load to your property within the City limits for a cost of $20 per local trip. Any further questions can be directed to the City office.
How do I dispose of yard waste?
State law requires that yard waste be kept separate from refuse.
City of Frankenmuth residents receive weekly yard waste services as part of their curbside solid waste collection program. Resident will no longer need to purchase special tags for yard waste. All yard waste materials must be placed in paper yard waste bags or in 20 gallon or smaller garbage cans with handles that have a "Yard Waste" sticker affixed to the front of the can. Yard waste stickers are available at City Hall and if you're purchasing a can, at GilRoy's and True Value.
Yard Waste rules:
Twigs must not protrude more than 12" above the container.
Individual cans and bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each (a good idea to keep the lid on so the materials does not get wet)
Brush greater than 2" in diameter should be set out the first Monday of the month for brush pick up. Twigs and small sticks should be placed out in a container or bag for yard waste pick up.
The City will continue to pick up brush (greater than 2 inches in diameter) the first Monday of each month from April through November. Leaf pickup by City crews will continue to happen in the fall.
Please do not place leaf piles at the curb April through September. We cannot pick them up.
