The City mourns the loss of Mayor Richard Krafft

It is with great sadness the City learned that former Mayor Richard Krafft Jr. passed this weekend.

Dick Krafft served a total of 28 years - first on the Village Council and then the City Council from Oct 1, 1959 - Dec 31, 1985. In fact, he served on the very first City Council as the City was incorporated in 1959.  Krafft served as Mayor Pro-tem for eight years and as Mayor for six years.  In addition to his direct service to the City, he was deeply involved in other local organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, the Civic Events Council and a charter member and past President of the Frankenmuth Lions Club, among many others.

He worked for 67 years at Star of the West and was General Manager/President and Treasurer from 1953-1997 and Chairman of the Board from 1997 to 2014. The City shares is grateful for Mr. Krafft's decades of service to the City and his community and we are better for it.
