Burn Permits


No outdoor burning is allowed in the Frankenmuth City limits or
 by Frankenmuth Township residents within ¼ mile of the corporate City limits. 
Frankenmuth Township properties may be issued a burn permit for up to three consecutive days. 

Rules for open burning in Frankenmuth Township are as follows:

  • Burning of household rubbish, tires, building materials, and paper products is strictly prohibited.
  • BURNING ANYTHING OTHER THAN BRUSH IS PROHIBITED.
  • Burning closer than 50' from any structures or combustible materials is prohibited.
  • Open burning of brush is permitted only during daylight hours.
  • No burning after dark.
  • No burning is permitted when wind speeds are 10 mph or more.
  • A garden hose or other approved fire extinguishing equipment must be available on site.
  • All open burning must be constantly attended by a person of at least 18 years of age.

Violation of these rules may result in citation, including a fine. The Fire Department is authorized to require that open burning be discontinued at any time.  

PLEASE WATCH YOUR SMOKE AND BE COURTEOUS TO YOUR NEIGHBORS. Offensive smoke or an unsafe burning condition justifies cause to extinguish fire, revoke a permit, and/or issue a citation.
