Boating

The Cass River provides many different types of boating opportunities in the Frankenmuth area.

Motor Boats

The City provides a boat ramp for trailered boats to access the boat launchriver upstream of the dam. The launch is located at 531 E. Tuscola St.  This concrete ramp was renovated and expanded in 2017 and can accomodate 2 boats at a time with a dock in the middle.  The launch is open year-round free of charge. A parking area is provided for vehicles with trailers, along with picnic areas on shore. The Cass River is a “NO WAKE” zone from the boat launch downstream to the dam.

Canoeing & Kayaking
Paddle sports are also popular activities along the Cass River. A universally (handicap) accessible floating canoe/kayak launch is provided in Heritage Park. This site provides an easy access for paddlers of any ability to enjoy the river upstream of the dam in Frankenmuth.  Canoes & kayaks can also be launched at the Memorial Park Boat Launch on Tuscola St.

For those paddlers that want to enjoy more miles of river, consider launching in Vassar or Tuscola and paddling downstream to Frankenmuth.
Paddlers can also launch small boats by hand below the dam on the south side of the river. From there, the next access point is Beyer Rd. Please be aware that this section of river (downstream of the dam) is shallow and may not be passable with a boat during low water levels.

Kayak Rentals are available at Frankenmuth Kayak Adventures.

Boat Tours
There are also two commercial boating operations on the river in Frankenmuth that provide tours for the public. For more information on these opportunities, please contact Frankenmuth Fun Ships or Bavarian Belle.
